Telephone, which was first patented in 1876 by Alexander Graham Bell and later developed by many others, was the first device in history that allowed people to talk directly with each other across large distances. As Thomas Edison said, “ the invention of the telephone brought the human family in closer touch." Telephone quickly became integral part of businesses, government, and households, so, today, in the 21st century, phone calls between friends and businesses around the world are just common everyday occurrences. In fact, telephone has changed greatly since the late 1800's when it first became popular. The definition of telephony has expanded greatly and today it is defined as the science of transmitting voice, data, video, or images over a distance that is greater than one can shout. As the telecommunications technology revolution continues to unfold, replacement of outdated telephone service infrastructure with VoIP is becoming popular among businesses, as it immediately enhances the productivity of any business. Today such components of telephone industry as IP telephony, VoIP, PBX, IP PBX are used interchangeably by many people, but difference between these telephone systems is distinct.
